Anchor Man

I absolutely love nautical graphics, from sailor stripes to those huge iron chains on the big ships � I even have a tattoo of an anchor on my arm! I was playing with nautical images for a print one night while watching the news, and I thought I should do TWO prints: Anchor Man, which like the nightly news anchor is organized and perfectly groomed, and Anchor Woman, which is still traditional but not as restrained (it�s a less-structured repeating print with some drawings of skulls and mermaids thrown in for fun!).

Another Brick In The Wall

People like to ask where I get my print ideas, and this one is an example of two main sources of inspiration: prints I�ve already done, which in turn suggest something new, and surrealist art. A lot of times, I�ll create a print I really like and another idea sprouts; for me, Another Brick in the Wall grew out of Woodgrain � both are ideal repeating patterns for a print! Also, this print celebrates the surrealist tradition of fabric design: the paradox of solid bricks flowing over fabric. And speaking of artistry, this print also celebrates the antique brickwork on my section of Queen Street West.

I can�t believe it took me so long to do a barbed wire print! I like stripes of all kinds, and this was a way to combine stripes with an edgy graphic feel. But there�s a more serious side to this print too: I�m also a big supporter of Amnesty International, which uses barbed wire in their logo. It makes me really sad to think of how many people on our planet are wrongfully imprisoned.

Burnt Irons
$I love the irony of representing something truly fake on fabric and then sexy it up by making fancy clothes out of it. Burnt Irons is another of my series of \"fake\" prints. Who would want to burn their clothes with an iron? Now burn the entire garment deliberately and that\s really cool don\t you think? Use a crazy color of ink for the \"burn mark\" and it gets even more ironic. It\s fashion!$

$My daughter and I were having fun baking some treats in our tiny kitchen, and I thought: what could be sweeter than a print that\s all hand-drawn cupcakes? I\m obsessed with making cupcake-covered party dresses right now, and the design is amazingly adaptable to every style -- plus we love to paint the frosting in glittery colours.$

Cute Guys

This collage of photographs is constructed with very close overlaps, and people have a lot of fun identifying the various men featured in this print: everybody I ever thought was cute from movie stars to monsters, politicians to astronauts, musicians to Mounties. For this print, my approach was to do to men what has been done to women over the years: I disregarded who they were or what they did, and judged them on their physical characteristics alone. Does that sound familiar?

Dans Le Jardin
$The name is French for \"In The Garden\" and this print is all about my emotional connection with my garden. I grew up on a farm but since I was in my teens I\ve lived in the big city. That hasn\t stopped me from my annual ritual of ordering seeds from seed catalogs and growing my own roof-top garden. I love to give my home-grown vegitables to people who visit.$

Darin\ Damsels

Darin� Damzels happened because I was hanging out at a cottage north of Toronto. As soon as I woke up surrounded by trees, I couldn�t stop drawing naked women. The curlicues of them reminds me of the long sinuous lines and knots in wood grain. The more I drew the ladies, the more ladies there were to draw! My friends got really mad at me because they wanted us to go outside and do nature stuff, but all I could do was work on my print.

David Bowie Ziggy Stardust

Peach Berserk loves pop culture, and to me, David Bowie is and will always be the ultimate pop icon. We got the album Hunky Dory when I was a kid in 1974, and to a little nerd on a farm in the middle of nowhere, it was like a portal to cool. A monumental moment! Before the internet, an album like that was a way to get a peek into a different universe. It made me realize there was a world outside what was �normal� and accepted in small town Ontario.

Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend

These diamonds are drawn to be purposely imperfect in pen and ink. One of the first fashions shows I ever did was at the 1988 Festival of Canadian Fashion, and this was my signature print for that collection. I wanted a kind of Felliniesque circus atmosphere, so for my application I made crazy line drawings of harlequin dresses. Even though I was a nobody, I got in -- and they gave me the best spot in the show: the finale. I couldn�t believe it! It was the best feeling to see the models in my lime green and yellow diamond dresses coming down that runway

What can you say? They�re dots. But they�re huge, uneven and handcut out of rubylith. I don�t think any clothing company can call themselves respectable if they don�t have clothes with dots! $When my daughter Digby was just 4 years old and doing what it is that 4 year old\s do with paper and crayons, I thought what a great name for a print! Digby Doodle (the print) was born that very afternoon!$

Edie Sedgwick Superstar

One reason I got into silkscreening in the first place was Andy Warhol and the whole 60s scene in NYC. Edie was the It Girl, leading the perfect fantasy life: she was rich, upperclass, beautiful, celebrated in avant-garde art but also a model for Vogue. The fantasy couldn�t last, though: she died of an overdose when she was only 28, but it�s incredible how many people are obsessed with her even now! This print is my tribute to her, and you�ll find Andy hanging out in the design too.

Eiffel For You

This one is my absolutely very first, official, commercial print. I had been to Paris as a teenager, and couldn�t believe that they didn�t sell dresses with the Eiffel Tower on them! I designed this print for my trip to Paris in 1986. If the Parisians weren�t going to sell me those dresses, then I would make some and sell them to the Parisians. I brought a garbage bag full of �Eiffel for You� print dresses to the foot of the Eiffel Tower itself and attempted to sell them. I sold one. To a tourist stall operator in the metro station. For half price. There�s a happy ending, though: �Eiffel For You� became one of my best-selling prints, for everything from wedding dresses to upholstery fabric to underwear. A peachy secret: You may notice that the word �Eiffel� is misspelled a couple of times on this print�well, you may notice. I didn�t until at least a year later when a customer pointed it out!

Fashion Plate

I was wandering around New York City, window shopping, and I happened to see cute plates in a window display. I started thinking about the lost art of dinner: matching china, complicated recipes, the right forks and the right wine. I imagined those cute dishes, loaded down with the kind of food I never make, printed onto dresses that someone might wear to a dinner party, and �Fashion Plate� was born. This print isn�t about the way I eat at all � I never have gravy in a gravy boat � but I love the way it evokes the essential pleasure of sitting down to dinner. I knew right away that pen and ink would be ideal for drawing the dinner plates freehand, and connecting them with curves and ornamental lines.

I cut them out of my favourite design medium, rubylith, and made the shapes vinelike and rounded (it even says Flirty Fleurs down the side, in hand-cut letters). It�s a very popular for choice for wedding and bridesmaid dresses and looks great printed tone-on-tone: cream on ivory, pink on pink �lovely and traditional, but a bit flirty too!

This is a new print that�s also one of my oldest: I drew it ages ago, but the artwork was lost in the basement of the store until we unearthed it just recently in the course of a massive cleanup operation. It became an instant customer favourite, and it�s one of mine too. I remember that when I drew it, I wanted the design to reflect a perfect girly fantasy, with nude, pouffy-haired ladies lounging on flowers. The ladies aren�t self-conscious at all; they�re loving every minute of their idyllic existence au naturel. I can�t believe this one was just sitting down there for years in the musty darkness, waiting to be revealed.

This is one of my all-time favourite prints. I�ll never retire this one! I sat down and painted it in a single session, and it was one of those designs that just flowed: it was so much fun to do, it was almost effortless, and I think that freedom comes across in the painterly feeling of the work. I�ve always loved gardening since my childhood on the farm, and now that I�m a city girl, I escape to my rooftop to care for my veggies and flowers!

Funky Femmes Du Fleur

One of my faves! This was so much fun to create: I can still see myself, sitting on the rocks by a lake in Northern Ontario, drinking a beer and cutting out rubylith for this design. It�s one of the very first Peach Berserk prints and I�ll never stop using it � I love it that much! For me, it captures the sunshine and freedom of a long-past summer, when I was young and it was so much easier to be happy and lost in the moment. I like to think that whoever wears this print gets an extra dose of great peachy karma!

Gettin\ Snippy

This print is all one single pair of scissors, opened and closed. What ever happened to that pair of scissors anyway? I had them for over 15 years and I can�t find them anywhere! When I started my business, I went to the old man down the street who sold fabric supplies and asked him which were the best, and he sold me those scissors. They were the real industrial deal, solid metal, and they must have weighed two pounds. I used to rent a corner of a studio from some t-shirt printers in a creepy old building � when I went home at night, I would take the scissors and walk down the hall brandishing them as my weapon!

Hands Off!
This is an old print, but it�s a very personal one. Yes, these are my very own hands and feet and lips! I applied india ink to myself for the original design. It took ages to get it off my lips once I was done, so I rocked a bit of a goth look for a while.

This salon-tastic print glorifies all things hair-related: bobby pins, dryers, spray, dye, combs, brushes, scissors, the works! It�s done in pen and ink; I very rarely use marker, because I love the variation in line that the metal nib gives me.

This is another archaeological discovery that was unearthed from the basement of the store! I designed it ages ago and the art was lost for years down there in the darkness with the dismembered mannequins, old catalogues and burned-out fluorescent light tubes. Head Shop features a design of hair flowing from and joining together the heads of different Peachy girls.

OMG, the Bride of Chucky print! True story: I was contacted by the film company to do the clothes for the Chucky doll � wee overalls printed with weapons. They gave me an actual Chucky doll to work with, and I kept it overnight in my apartment. It was right there looking at me all night long! When the costumers came to pick up the overalls, they saw some of this heart-printed fabric in my studio and they wanted printed boxer shorts for the guy who gets slaughtered on his honeymoon. Go check out Bride of Chucky -- it�s one of my all time fave movies, and now you can watch for the moments of Peachy fame (in between covering your eyes at the scary parts).

A big favourite with cat lovers, and it looks great combined with Kitty Kat, my print of cat faces and names. These cat silhouettes, cut out of rubylith, are based on my barn cats when I was growing up. Funny how cats stay in your memory; there are cats I had back in 1970 and I still remember them (even though my dad made them live outside).

How To Meet A Man

Forget the self-help books; these are all my own original tips for meeting men, and now you can print them on your sexy stretchy dress for handy reference at the bar. These tips and tricks are all based on stuff I did in my misguided youth, handwritten and embellished with illustrations because I love combining images and text. (And yes, I even tried the orange lipstick one! Hey, it worked for me once � it might work for you!)

For this print, I placed a coat hanger on a big piece of paper, traced it with a pencil, then moved it to a different location and traced it anew. When I was happy with the interlocking design, I went over everything with pen and ink. It�s got a touch of surrealist edginess that I like, especially when printed on flowing, shiny silk.

I Am A Natural Woman

I never get tired of making prints of naked ladies, but I�d never done one based on photographs until Natural Woman. It was fascinating to research nude photography and find these gorgeous vintage images for my print. Natural Woman is another in my series of prints that take back ownership of the female body. Images like these used to be bought by men for secret satisfaction, and I find it very liberating to print them on dresses!

I Haven\t Got A Thing To Wear

I was getting ready for a date one night and looking through my wardrobe, and it struck me! All day I had been designing a print with different dress styles, but it wasn�t really working. Then I thought of drawing little hangers for the dresses, and that idea pulled this print together for me. I was so excited about the breakthrough that I cancelled my date, stayed home and sat on the floor in front of the TV, finishing my print! There�s still a strong demand for it even though it was one of my first. Of all my designs, this is one that I feel really works, graphically and as an expression of what Peach Berserk is all about, and one that seems to have a special meaning for my customers. People tell me their stories: how they bought something at Peach Berserk when they were 14 and it inspired them to be creative, or how a custom prom dress made their daughter feel like a princess. It�s the high point of my day when I get a photo of someone wearing my designs to their wedding, or on their travels to somewhere I may never go. Then I add it to my collection on the change-room walls at Peach Berserk or on our website!

I Love A Man In A Uniform

This print takes a page from my dad�s life: the 1937 yearbook showing his graduating class in military school. I enlarged the pictures, and the more grainy they looked, the more I liked them. I wanted an extreme vintage look as well as very clear contrast between the areas of light and dark. Using family photographs for printing lets you keep a part of your personal history alive through your art. When people ask about this print in the store, I get to talk about my dad, his life and accomplishments. I�m proud of my dad, and I�m proud of this print too.

I Luv Silkscreening

This print exists because I decided to write a book on silkscreening. I was doing the illustrations at the caf� around the corner from my store, and putting them on the floor to dry as I ran out of room on the table. They looked so cute next to each other down there that I thought I would create a print to celebrate the world of silkscreening equipment. It�s amazing that over twenty years of silkscreening, I had never done a print devoted to the actual craft before now!

I Want Candy

A delicious print from the early days of Peach Berserk, this one celebrates the candies of my childhood: pixie stix, sweet tarts, candy cigarettes� remember those? I was sure they didn�t make them any more, but I found a supply in a retro candy store on a recent trip to New York. This print never wanes in popularity -- candy is always in style. Mix and match it with some of the other snack food prints, or Cupcakes if you have a fashion sweet tooth.

Ick

This is actually my second bug print � it�s the darker side of my more cute and friendly hand-drawn Bug Off design, which features a lot of nonthreatening ladybugs and ants. Wouldn�t this one make great pillowcases? For this print, I wanted larger than life insects, menacing in their detail and size. While I worked on it, I felt actually physically sick, even though I loved how it was turning out. I decided to name it Ick, and I formed the letters out of severed bug legs from the artwork I was cutting out. If you love it, you�re in solid scientific company: a lot of entomologists buy this print.

Iron Lady

This takes me back to my final year at art school. I was the Goddess of Multitasking: student, employee, and nascent fashion entrepreneur. I was working as a security guard at the school, and I scheduled my shifts so that I could use the print studio equipment during them! I designed, shot and printed Iron Lady while walking my beat in the art school buildings after hours. OK, when the authorities found out about it, they fired me, but this print had already entered Peach Berserk history as the successful result of my covert operation.

OK, so he�s been named the Sexiest Man how many times now? Need I explain further?! Of course we had to make a Johnny Depp tribute print! People love this design, and very often combine it with Hearts, Kissy Kissy, Smooches� or a custom print of themselves or a friend!

Juicy Fruit

This print features vintage 1950s advertising images of fruit � back then fruit designs were all the rage, in advertising, in home d�cor� fruit was over the place. Remember those plastic grapes people used to display in bowls? There�s even a really early Columbo episode where he asks somebody if the grapes on the coffee table are real before he eats one. I�d pull the grapes off the plastic stalks when I was a kid and get in trouble because they were impossible to put back on, but I was fascinated by them! When I first made this print, we�d sew Juicy Fruit dresses and hang plastic grapes on them for extra tastiness.

Jumble O Jewels

This print reflects my love of fake jewelry: the faker, the better! I love loading on strands of plastic pearls, huge sparkly gems, crazy chains and huge hoop earrings. Jumble O� Jewels is like the top of my dresser (only a lot less chaotic). The great big diamonds makes it a popular choice for weddings, but this print looks amazing as prom or party dresses too: you should see it in bright pink or silver printed on black satin. Gorgeous!

Kiss Gene Simmons
You can�t consider yourself a serious textile designer without a print of Gene Simmons, now can you?

Kissy Kissy

It seemed a natural progression: a print of just lipsticks, and so of course a print of just lips! I made the drawing very simple, so it can be painted in different colours. I like how Kissy Kissy can be interpreted in such a variety of ways, and on different types of garments. It can be sexy and romantic, or it can be cute and sweet, or anything in-between. It�s also great when mixed with some of my other prints, like Smooches, or of course the iconic Lipsticks print that inspired it!

Kitschy Kitchen

I was pretty poor when I designed this print, but I needed real kitchen implements: my plan was to spray paint them black, string them up with thread and photograph them from different angles. So I went down to my local thrift store, where they had a huge bin of basically unusable kitchenware. I had to bargain for a rusty potato masher! Who would want that except me? I loved the perspectives I eventually achieved with the photographs; it�s traditional kitchen stuff, but it all appears to be floating in space.

Kitty Kats

Cat portraits make a fun repeating print! For this one, I wanted a really childlike na�ve drawing style � it�s hard to do that when you�re an adult, but it�s a very rewarding creative exercise. I love words in prints, so beneath each portrait I wrote in traditional names for cats, and some not so traditional � you�ll find my childhood cat Sputnik in there if you look. Also, if anyone called me on the phone while I was drawing this print, I included their name (like my friend Judy!) I love it when people get excited because they found their own cat�s name on the print. Of course if you don�t see your cat�s specific moniker, you can always find the one applicable to any feline: TROUBLE.

OK, I�ll admit it: I don�t knit myself, but I LOVE knitted stuff and wanted to celebrate the art. My favourites are tight little sweaters in bright pink or blue, or fuzzy comfy sweater-dresses in black.

I love all my prints, but this one has a special meaning for me. I used pictures of women from 1950s catalogues and patterns, and you could just tell they were supposed to be saying things like �I would never let my man come home to an untidy house!� or �He really does know best, dear.� It was, well, liberating to encourage other kinds of conversation in the speech bubbles I drew: �I�d rather be curvy� and �How come men are go-getters, but we�re bitches?� Women�s issues are very important to me, and in this print I literally make it my business to be a feminist. This is an updated version of Lady Libbers I � the vintage ad images are about 2 decades newer, but still devastatingly retro. It was so much fun coming up with things for them to say that contrasted with their traditional poses and outfits! These Lady Libbers are stuck in the 70s, so they�re a bit brasher than the original Lady Libbers who were stuck in the 50s, but they�re all part of the same sisterhood.

Life Is Beautiful

For this print, I used another of my favourite design media: charcoal. I�ve loved drawing in charcoal since art school, and it really suits designing for screen-printing: you get a marvellous variation of line, and the charcoal dust contributes an element of randomness to the final print. These ladies are inspired by Matisse: their flowing lines and curves are especially beautiful, and there�s a peaceful feeling about this print. It looks amazing printed in metallic gold ink on bright silk.

Lobster Twist

This print was resurrected from obscurity when we were cleaning out the basement of my studio. Years ago, a Chinese chain restaurant commissioned a print for a seafood promotion � they wanted lobsters holding chopsticks. Well, the deal didn�t go through, so the artwork was relegated to the basement and forgotten. When it hit daylight once more, I realized how much I loved it. We freed the lobsters of their chopsticks, and since then it�s been really popular.

This is the companion print to Dig My Dots � only these are smaller and a bit more dainty. They have a great circus feel to them, though � I love playing with different colours for this print, and it shows up a lot in my patchwork pieces.

Luvly Lipstix

I was still at art school when I made this! The lipsticks are cut out of rubylith to evoke the multi-faceted tubes of my beloved 1980s Dior lipsticks. So chic! This is a great print on its own, or combined with �Sex and the Single Girl� � or any of my girlie prints, really! You�ll find a lot of lipstick in my prints; for me, it�s a like an art supply. I love the colours and the textures, and the easy way it brings art and history and fashion together in an everyday ritual.

One of my original prints, and a real Peach Berserk classic. I never go out without lipstick and mascara � I mean NEVER � and since I�d already celebrated lipstick in several prints, I didn�t want to leave out my other daily necessity! What can I say? It�s another in my series of fangirl prints! I�ve always liked making collages of pop images, and Mick is an icon to so many people around the world. It�s amazing how this print reaches such a wide audience: Mick seems to have timeless, permanent sex appeal!

Misbehavin Mermaids

What knitting is to other people, cutting out shapes in rubylith is to me! I go into a trance and I just can�t stop. I remember someone saying they could crack an egg at my house and there would be a bit of rubylith in it! �Misbehavin� Mermaids� is one of my first really complex prints. It�s an interlocking design, so it�s ideal for repeating prints on big lengths of fabric. I wanted the mermaids to be living my life if I were a mermaid: they�re talking on the phone outside of their long-distance-plan hours while sneaking junk food from the fish. This print created itself as I cut it, and I worked on it for weeks. I�ve made hoodies combining this print with our other print �Voluptuous Vegetables� and called them �Surf and Turf�!

Naked Ladies

This is one of my first prints from very early in my career, but we just finished making wool business suits featuring these stunning curvy ladies for Fall 2009! Naked Ladies marks the beginning of the expansion of my designs into slightly racier territory. I think the female body is the incarnation of art: infinitely varied, and beautiful in all its forms. Many of my designs now feature female nudes in lots of different styles, but I will always have a particular love for this one, with its two-dimensional pop graphic punch.

$I do a lot of prints based on music I love, and this is one! But it�s also about the female icons of the New Wave: Nina Hagen, Deborah Harry, Lene Lovich, Chrissie Hynde, Siouxie Sioux� while they\re all different from each other, they each have a musical style and unique aesthetic that speak volumes about being a strong, sexy and talented woman in a man\s world. This print gets tremendous response from Gen-X women who remember it all with me.$

New Wave Music
This one is very meaningful to me � it celebrates my favorite music and all my fave bands. It brings me back to the freedom and craziness of my youth, and how I loved every single song they played when I went clubbing. The music was all so good back then! This was the best time to grow up, in my opinion.

This is my travel print, and it celebrates all the places I�d been (or longed to visit) at the time I drew it. I�d have to add a few more now! You�ll find Rome on there, and of course Paris� it�s packed with all the fun and glamour of world travel without the hassle of customs or delayed flights. Take a skirt or dress in this print to your next exotic destination. My customers travel all over the globe with Peachy items � they�re easy to pack, very versatile and you can wash them in the sink.

Obama Yes We Can

About a month prior to the election, I was having a beer with my friends when the talk turned to politics. They asked me why I didn�t have an Obama print yet, so I rushed back to the studio (well, I finished my beer first!) and designed it that very day. I printed it on t-shirts, dresses, scarves, skirts, bags, pillows � I really needed him to win, since we had made all that stuff! Luckily for me (and the rest of the world), he did. Our Obama window display generated a lot of attention and press on both sides of the border: the scarves and dresses were featured on the BUST Magazine website. It�s also the only print I�ve ever made that inspired a piece of actual hate mail, from a woman in the US who told me to stay on my side of the border!

$Anybody who has been to my home can\t avoid knowing that I\m a collector of old paint-by-numbers paintings; they cover almost every square inch of my walls. I love my collection and I love looking at them on my walls. Some are quite rare including the nudes I selected for this print which I wanted to share with everyone. I think they are so beautiful.$

I�ve been to Paris many times, at different stages in my life, and it�s always an incredible inspiration. There�s just nowhere like it! Wearing something with this print on it is like spending a day in the City of Light: it takes you to the Louvre, the Seine, Luxembourg Gardens, shopping at Galleries Lafayette, and lots more of my favourite places. It�s fun to mix Paris Postcards with some of my other travel prints, like my NYC one � another of my all-time favourite destinations.

Passionate Pantry

This one is done in pen and ink, and its inspiration couldn�t be closer to home. One day I looked at the shelf that runs the length of my tiny kitchen in my apartment above the store, and I realized that shelves make a naturally repeating print! Passionate Pantry realistically depicts the crazy mix of things you will find in my kitchen on any given day, like ketchup next to hairspray next to Kraft Dinner and a bottle of wine.

Patches

I cut this seventies-style print out of rubylith, one of my favourite media for creating designs. If you grew up in the 70s, you had clothes which featured these crazy-huge patchwork stitches printed onto a faux-denim fabric � I certainly did! To make it even more postmodern and meta, I like to use the Patches print to make actual patchwork.

$If there ever was an iconic symbol then the peace sign is it. What I love about it is that it gets interpreted by the observer in ways the person wearing the clothing wouldn\t imagine. What does it mean to you?$

$This print amuses me because it makes a repeating pattern out of a repeating pattern (the stripes), and it also incorporates my interest in history and political figures. It looks amazing printed on gold raw silk, and we can always add some hand-painted details: Check out the Rockin\ King Tut overprint print too that we can add on top of this print if you request. It adds stripes and jaunty eyeshadow and lips to the ancient one. With it Tut can rock another fashion classic, red lipstick!$

It�s true. I never seem to get tired of designing flower prints and in particular roses! I used charcoal to give a primitive and rough edge to these flowers. If you look at the other rose prints like Restless Roses , Tango Roses, and Bunch a Roses, they all have a very different emotional feel to them.

Sassy Sunflowers

Make no mistake � these are GIANTS, larger than life, big as I remember them from my childhood on the farm. My Dad was obsessed with sunflowers. We had a driveway that went around the house, and my Dad planted them all along it. They grew to impossible heights, and now sunflowers are a symbol of those long-ago summers for me. It�s a bit counter-intuitive, but this design has the most impact when we print it in black ink! It looks incredible on a golden yellow background.

I love designing prints based on crafts, and of course there had to be a sewing print! I love to sew. When I first started my business, I decided that my skills needed upgrading and I took industrial sewing and pattern drafting by night at my local community college. It was one of the best things I ever did � the instructors were fabulous and everybody was really serious about learning. If you want to learn the skill, I highly recommend night school! This print is my celebration of sewing, complete with measuring tapes, thread, needles, the works.

Sex And The Single Girl
$One of my very first prints ever! It\s named after the 1962 book by Helen Gurley Brown. I bought a hot-pink secondhand copy when I was 18 and it\s been my Bible ever since. Ms Brown taught me that a woman could choose her own destiny through her own hard work, and not depend on men for meaning or direction in life. I learned to focus on a future that I could control, through my own persistence. And I loved the way she mixed serious advice with crazy humour and glamour tips! I practically memorized her whole book. Later on, when I got to art school, I sliced photocopied blow-ups of the text into individual words and lines for my print, and interspersed them with drawings and commentary of my own. I even sent a \"Sex and the Single Girl\" top to Ms. Brown, and would you believe she actually sent me a personal thank-you letter on Cosmo stationery? I have it framed in my bedroom.$

Sexy Stripes

Horizontal stripes are one of my favourite patterns to wear � they can feel so Parisian and sophisticated, and besided, they go really well with my anchor tattoo! But Peach Berserk is about disrupting regular patterns and viewing them in a new way, so I wanted to make a print with handmade stripes, cut out of rubylith. These are definitely not perfect stripes! They waver, they�re unruly, they�re full of unexpected random light spots, and they�ve been super-popular since our first run of t-shirts. I love using this print in my patchwork items!

Sexy Take-Out

I love Chinese takeout; it�s the foundation of my personal food pyramid. It�s practically a major food group on its own. I couldn�t live without it! This print is inspired by the many, many places that have served me my faves over the years: chicken balls, chow mein, fried rice, egg rolls (especially Mr. Pong�s giant ones), and fortune cookies for dessert. Don�t forget the extra packets of soy and a styrofoam bucket of that violently pink sweet-n-sour sauce! This print is so much fun that we even designed an Asian-style dress and top to showcase it. Great. Now I�m hungry.

Lovely swirly smooching couples and interconnected hearts, all done in flowing pen-and-ink lines! Like Simply Marvelous, this print was inspired by my visit to a resto in Paris that was all designed by Jean Cocteau. It had beautiful drawings by him on the walls; a very fancy place� it really affected me. Every time I look at this print, I remember that trip and I�m inspired all over again.

Snakeskin

This is another in our series of textural patterns that are also naturally repeating prints. It�s fun to mix with the Rock N Roll prints, or the animal patterns, and it looks incredible done in tone-on-tone: scarlet ink on hot pink silk, for instance, or gunmetal grey on black.

Sock It To Me

When I was working on my DIY book, �Silkscreen NOW!�, I needed to shoot photos of how to put a repeating print together. The problem: all my repeating prints were already assembled and shot. The solution? Do a new one, just for the book! If you want to see just how this one was created, check out the Repeating Prints chapter. Besides giving me a warm fuzzy publishing-related feeling (and I do mean warm: we shot the photos on the hottest day of the year), this one rocks for its puffy-lettered, seventies-slogan appeal.

Star Babies

I put a ton of work into this zodiac design print; it�s all done in pen and ink, and it took me weeks to complete the art for this! My sign is Cancer the Crab � about the only thing that suits me about my sign is that my store is like my shell, and prefer being in my shell! This looks incredible paired with Kosmic Cocktails, for instance in panels on a skirt or jacket, so I feel like all that hard work was rewarded.

Steppin\ Out

This is another of my very early prints, featuring hand-drawn shoes. It�s amazing how my taste in shoes remains the same! I still love crazy high heels, platforms, stilettos, anything that makes me feel tall and glamourous � of course, they also have to withstand daily contact with stray ink and fabric shreds in the studio, but that just gives them extra character. There�s no such thing as �special-occasion shoes� in my world. Work, parties, speaking engagements, TV, lying in bed watching gameshows: I wear the same crazy heels for everything!

This is a signature Peach Berserk print from the earliest days of my business, featuring women in repeating rows. At the time, I was addicted to collecting vintage sewing patterns, tracing the silhouettes, and rearranging them into different designs. It�s amazing how just from the silhouette, you can tell the era of the sewing pattern!

These are shining 1970s stars in all their retro glory. Boomers will remember that iconic seventies t-shirt with a single big star on it? I wanted a print that brought that image into a crazy repeating design, and since I like to combine text with my repeating prints, this one proudly proclaims what it is: a Super Star.

Swingin\ From The Chandeliers
$Elegance and utility combined into one. That\s what a chandelier is. I decided to do this print after I replaced some ugly track lighting in my bedroom with a beautiful old brass chandelier I found on Craigslist. Wear this on a dress and be sure to wear crystal teardrop earrings with it. (I don\t really swing from the chandeliers but sometimes I feel like it!)$

These are flowers in brush and ink; I wanted them to be very simple yet visually arresting, and I�m really pleased with the results. Whenever I teach my silkscreen workshop in the print studio at the back of the store, I use Tango Roses as an example of a painterly print!

Tease-Me Cheesies!

I base a lot of my prints on things I love, and Cheesies are definitely high on that list. When I travel, I collect international Cheesies bags � I�ve got them from France, Mexico, the US and England so far. I tape the bags into my travel guides and write a little review of the general tastiness of the snack. Here at home, there are days on end when Cheesies are all I eat. I even made a short film about them in art school: �The Lipstick Cheesies War�. It starred yours truly in a depiction of a woman�s internal conflict. In one scene I was a glamorous girl in gown and pearls, and in another I was in an undershirt, chomping Cheesies dipped in peanut butter. Then there was a climactic battle scene between an army of Cheesies and an opposing force of lipstick tubes � there were even little stretchers and bandages for the casualties. I can�t remember who won, though�

These Boots Are Made For Walkin\

A crazy print of all kinds of funky platform boots, which as anyone who knows me will tell you, are the only kind I ever wear (especially with black tights or fishnets). This print celebrates the early days of the internet when I realized what cool boots you could get from just about anywhere, and suddenly I was no longer restricted by the inexplicable insistence of local shoe retailers to sell me unflattering flats.

Who can resist the charm of a traditional Hawaiian print? It�s too much fun. I cut these Polynesian-inspired flowers out of my favourite design medium, rubylith, and the resulting print is summery and refreshing. Great for a long silk wrap that you can wear right into the ocean!

This is another of the very first, original Peach Berserk prints, and I�ll never retire it; I love it too much! I designed it around the time I did the Lipstix print (another of my treasured early ones). Troo Love

I worked incredibly hard on assembling this very dense collage print of vintage early-70s comics. I mixed my own captions with the real ones, such as the exchange between the lady in the bikini and the admiring guy: �I can�t believe a girl like you isn�t engaged!� �Oh really?!

Twisted Too Lips

I like the prints I did from this era; I was reinterpreting images that were conventionally portrayed as soft and pretty. These flowers are done in brush and ink, and they�re bold, freeform, and almost aggressive-looking. This is definitely a non-traditional take on floral prints! It�s been really successful whenever we�ve printed it on skirts and stretchy tops, and I�m pleased that people respond to it.

Viva Los Vases
This print is based on my drawings of wacky vases with flowers sprouting out of them. I just let myself go and had fun drawing whatever came into my head! A lot of the vases have women�s faces peering out of them as well; it�s a fun and crazy and iconically Peachy print. Looks great with handpainted details, too.

Voluptuous Veggies

I loved growing up on a farm, and a lot of my prints celebrate those great childhood memories. We had a huge vegetable garden and that�s where the idea for this print took root. I got out my rubylith, started cutting, and the design grew into a crazy crop of veggie ladies -- but of course I had to sex them up the Peach Berserk way with pouty lips, long eyelashes and fun flirty names like Tease-Me-Tomatoes. We use this print on everything from dresses to kitchen curtains, but my favourite thing to do is mix Voluptuous Veggies with Misbehavin� Mermaids. Voila! Surf N Turf!

What Would Jesus Print?

I adore religious art, even though I�m not religious myself. Our beliefs may be different, but as humans we have always used art to express our view of the universe. This print celebrates the power of art to connect us through that common desire for expression. I designed this print using images from medieval icons and kitschy paint-by-numbers portraits, and I think it turned out really well. My favourite thing is to print this one in sparkly gold ink, like the gold leaf on cathedral ceilings. It looks great against a backdrop of celestial blue or hot pink. This print made its debut at the book launch for my DIY silkscreening manual, Silkscreen NOW! I even wore a dress with WWJP that night, a white stretch one printed in black with multicoloured trim made out of waste chiffon. But then again, nothing is considered waste at Peach Berserk! Wouldn�t Jesus recycle? I think he would.

Wig Out!
$One of my early Peach Berserk prints was called \"Beauty Parlour\", and it featured gorgeous models from vintage wig ads along with other accoutrements of the hairstyling trade. Finally, after literally thousands of uses, the silkscreen needed replacing, but when I went to re-shoot the original artwork, I discovered that it was damaged and couldn\t be repaired. RIP, Beauty Parlour! I wanted to do a new print that preserved the spirit of the old one, and yet wasn\t a replica, because it would never be exactly the same. That\s where these bewigged beauties come in, and I love the way the new print has turned out! It blends retro and modern in a fresh way, and I\ve taken extra care with storing the artwork this time so we can Wig Out for years to come.$

This was a winning entry in a strawberry-themed design contest, and guess what? I won CASH MONEY for it! It�s another print from the era of Twisted Too Lips, when I was reworking images that were traditionally soft and cute and pretty. This was a winning entry in a strawberry-themed design contest, and guess what? I won CASH MONEY for it! It�s another print from the era of Twisted Too Lips, when I was reworking images that were traditionally soft and cute and pretty. This print is done in a strong, bold style � they�re like strawberries from �Day of the Triffids�. They�ll slice you up and put you on their cereal in the morning.

Wired Roses

I was considering the long, thorny stems of climbing roses for this print, and they reminded me of barbed wire. I thought that was a cool juxtaposition: pretty romance being turned into something bolder and stronger. The roses bloom along twists of thick barbed wire that seems to writhe along the print. This looks absolutely amazing printed in poison green on brown cotton velvet, or luxurious black on blood red silk crepe.

Woodgrain

Did you have a Rec Room when you were growing up? My parents would never have dreamed of calling it that, but we definitely had one. It had picture windows with a view of the farm, but it also had the Dreaded Plastic Woodgrain Finish on the walls. Woodgrain was a staple of 70s interior design, right up there with Harvest Gold and Avocado on the kitchen appliances (we had those too!). My Woodgrain print celebrates that retro craziness, but it also belongs to the surrealist tradition of printing fabrics with paradoxical designs. I love mixing the solidity of the wood image with slippery satins or lycra stretch. Woodgrain is really fun on prom dresses; we like to funk it up even further with chiffon flowers and leaves.

Zany Zebra
Another in my series of natural repeating prints, like the Brick print, or Snakeskin. I love printing this one on hot colours of stretch in bizarrely contrasting inks � the crazier, the better! It also looks incredible on satin, and it�s been really popular for party dresses.
